Engine-Driven High-Flow Hydraulic Drive Systems

These high-performance engine driven drive-systems are available in two types, Standard and Advanced, this represents different pump sizes, and kits are available for either 200 or 300 Tdi engines for Defender and Discovery. They are a highly engineered solution to provide a powerful and relaible hydraulic drive for winches or other hydraulic equipment for your vehicle. They are the result of 2 years of development. They have been tested to operate in the most arduous conditions yet are simple in operation and to fit. We feel these systems are a major step development and represent the highest specification hydraulic drive-systems yet to be fitted to Land Rover vehicles, and we're confident you will agree.

The systems can be supplied as complete ready to fit hydraulic systems with all the ancillary components such as the control valve and hose kit, or as pictured below, so that you can fit your own control and hose system.

An advantage with an engine driven system, is that when self recovering you can 'drive-assist', (not that you often need to with a hydraulic winch, as they're so powerful you don't usually need to). You can also easily vary the speed of the winch by taking the engine revs up to 2500rpm when needed. The control system couldn't be easier, as the pump is fitted with a dog clutch and is engaged and disengaged when needed, so that the pump pulley is in freeweheel when not engaged, this is so the engine is not permanantly driving the pump.

The gearbox-driven PTO system is not so easy to 'drive-assist' with, as the speed of the winch is governed by the speed of the gearbox. This can be varied by changing gear on the main gearlever, but the winch is normally pulling the vehicle more quickly than the wheels are rotating.

The Standard system will suit most needs. It provides a flow rate of 26 litres per minute at 1000rpm and will power any Milemarker or RED winch with maximum power and at a very good line speed up to around 30 metres per minute depending on winch motor size. The Standard system is supplied with a 26cc hydraulic pump with dog-clutch, which is driven by a toothed belt, along with a new crankshaft pulley which has an extra toothed belt pulley machined into it, along with the billet-machined pump bracket and toothed belt. All the kits are designed especially for 200 & 300 Tdi Land Rover engines.

The Advanced system is principally the same as the Standard system but is supplied with a huge 36cc hydraulic pump. This system is designed for winch-competition applications or other high flow rate demand applications. It has a bigger dog clutch to cope with the increased torque loading.
