Here at First Four, we have been pleased to work with RED Winches during the winch and drive-system development period, and we are now able to present and supply the full winch range, now that the extensive research and development period has been completed. These are fantastic, fully British-designed-and-built winches and represent a huge leap forward in British-manufactured winch design.
The serious winch user can now enjoy a professional highly engineered high-performance winch, capable of operating in the most demanding situations and environments. As they have been designed and built to withstand extensive testing and the severest use in the field, they are entirely dependable. All the R & D has been done, we don't expect our customers to do it for us.
RED winches are manufactured in the UK to the very highest engineering standards using state of the art high precision machining methods and materials, and to enable you to fit a complete reliable hydraulic winch system we have also developed the very best choice of drive-systems available. There are 5 different winch models in the range, so there will be one which will exactly suit your winching needs.
RED winches will shortly be featured in the 4x4 magazines. We are currently still building the web content for the range, and ask you to bear with us for a short time whist we complete this part of the launch. Hydraulics
The winches are driven by powerful hydraulic motor.
A solenoid valve can be supplied to control this winch.
Remote control of the solenoid valve is recommended via a ‘Lodar’ remote unit.
Drive Systems
Their are a choice of three drive systems.
1. Engine mounted ZF74 hydraulic pump for the CHALLENGER, CRUSADER and SABRE winches.
2. Enging mounted high performace pump with toothed belt sprocket and belt system, for all models.
3. Transfer-Gearbox mounted power take off (PTO) and pump, fo all models.
Winch Gearbox
Single speed planetary gearbox with fully integrated hardened gears.
The ratio of the gears: 6:1
Drum
The winch drum is unpainted on the core to support the 'capstan' effect performed on the drum by the rope tightening under load’. During trials this has been shown to give a much better long lasting grip onto the drum. A minimum of nine (9) wraps of the drum must be seen on the first layer before winching under load.
Brake
The winches can be supplied with or without a braked unit fitted, adding even more control. Please ask for more details if this option is required.
