FIRST FOUR was started in 2001 after 15 years of experience owning and using Land Rovers in a variety of environments, 5 years spent training drivers in the public-utility and military training sectors, and providing demonstration driving services for off-road vehicle manufacturers.
When the Foot & Mouth disaster struck in 2001 we could not carry out training activities due to movement restrictions. That is when we looked seriously at producing off-road vehicle equipment. Peter's backgound is in precision engineering and steel fabrication, so we were able to address the practical challenges of design and manufacturing, utilising the first hand vehicle knowledge we have of using a wide range of off-road vehicles in wide ranging environments that we had accumulated down the years.
Now, 8 years later, our SHADOW range of equipment is used around the world and is designed very much with the recreational off-roader, commercial, and expedition user in mind. There are many other companies that cater well for the extreme competition sector, but we stay with what we know. Our main interest has always been to develop the capabilities of the standard vehicle so that the vehicle's versatility is not compromised, rather than radical re-designs which are often far removed from the original vehicle design concept.
We work hard to maintain the lead we have developed in our area of activity, that is winch bumpers, vehicle mounted winches, recovery equipment and vehicle protection. Our customers appreciate the fact that our equipment is designed and still manufactured in Britain, after all, it is designed to be used on Land Rovers, still a British icon for over 60 years!

Hi guy's, I just thought I'd send you a big thank you for two bumper's that I received from you a while back, a (tubular winch and a rear disco heavy duty). First I was very impressed at how well the bumpers where packed and wrapped, and they arrived in top condition.
The manufacture and the welds are first class, and they fitted with no problem's. They also look great now that they are on my Disco.

Hi, Just wanted to thank you when you steered me in the correct direction with my winch purchase. On Saturday we was driving at Kulmakorpi, a small off road area. Quite muddy and needed several times the winch. Some guys have the "cheaper" winches, and they are definitely different compared to the Superwinch. The sound of the units is much more "metallic" and also they are slow in spooling. Also my Superwinch has worked great, no problems.
Also the Shadow front bumper is great, it has even reduced the approach angle from original, it's strong (brushed some rocks) and also it looks really cool. Several fellow off roaders has complimented the neat look of the Shadow bumper. The traditional box winch bumpers look so bulky. I left your sticker on the bumper and have recommended your shop.

A real super delivery, goods were really well packed and as far as I can think of impossible to harm the contents of the package due to very thorough packing. The surprise came when I finally had completely unwrapped the Bumper. In one word WOW! This is craftsmanship of the highest standard, completely incomparable to the original or competition. The order I placed on 1 September for the Defender Shadow Tubular Winch Bumper has now arrived in the
Falkland Islands following several weeks bouncing around the Atlantic Ocean. Everything arrived safely and intact
due to the generous packing of the kit by your staff. I have never seen so much bubble wrap and parcel tape in my
life! Having unwrapped the bumper I can only say that I am delighted!! It more than meets my expectations. Even the extras (stainless steel fairlead and swivel recovery eyes were already fitted. A minor task perhaps but much
appreciated. I would also take the opportunity to thank you for including all the required nuts, bolts and fittings and (colour) instructions. We have just returned from a fun weekend in Wales with friends and just wanted to pass on details of our accommodation
Ron and Linda are long time Off-roaders/green laners and general Land Rover nuts, they may already be well known to many of you. They rent out a delightful two bed (each bed being big enough for a family of four) cottage perfectly located for all of the best lanes in the Brecons and Black mountains.
Nineteen of us ate there on Saturday night and enjoyed the most scrumptious spread of Indian curries I have ever had (vegetarians amongst us catered for as well) followed up with a range of outrageous sweets to die for, the brandy and black current trifle just being edged by the home made (with home grown) apple crumble in my book, I didn’t have space to try any of the other three dishes that looked equally stunning.
The incredible thing is that the meal cost £7 each, which meant accommodation and a fantastic diner at less than £20 is less than most restaurants would charge for a meal. It would take an exceptional restaurant to come close to quality of this.
